SAVORY CHEX MIX
'Tis the season of holiday parties and potlucks! I was seriously craving the chex mix my mom and grandma have had on hand for every gathering since I can remember. So I bought a bottle of worcestershire sauce and half the cereal aisle at Target, and got to work. (PS, does anyone out there know the REAL way to pronounce worcestershire? I changed my preferred pronunciation about 28 times the day I made this...)
This mix is salty and savory, and will make your house smell soooo good for hours.
All you have to do is mix up the crunchy ingredients, melt butter and whisk it with your flavor-ers (totally a word), and bake for an hour on a sheet pan. And it's SO much better than anything storebought, promise.
3 cups corn chex
3 cups rice chex
2 cups whole wheat chex
2 cups peanuts or mixed nuts
2 cups bite-size pretzels
2 1/2 sticks (1 1/4 cups) salted butter, melted
4 tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
3/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1. preheat oven to 250ºF.
2. in large bowl, mix chex, mixed nuts, and pretzels. set aside.
3. melt the butter in a bowl and mix in the worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder and a good pinch of pepper. pour butter over cereal mixture, tossing well until the cereal mixture is evenly coated.
4. bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes. store in an airtight container.
