Hi!

Welcome to my blog. I document my cooking adventures and favorite recipes here. Grab a spatula and stay a while!

FAMOUS NEIMAN MARCUS COOKIES

There's an old wive's tale about these famous Neiman Marcus cookies—someone was once charged $250 for the recipe. These cookies are what they sell inside Neiman Marcus stores, and the recipe has been widely circulated now for years (for free). They're chunky, buttery, and full of decadent chocolate. Read on for the recipe.

I halved the recipe since the yield was so high. I'm including those measurements so you don't have to do the math!

for 2.5 dozen cookies:
1 stick butter
1/2 cup granulated or raw sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
1 1/4 cup oatmeal (pulse in food processor until very fine)
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt (I used sea salt)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 oz grated/chopped baker's chocolate
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

First, preheat the oven to 375°F and cream the butter and sugars until fluffy. Then add vanilla and egg and beat until combined. Incorporate dry ingredients (except walnuts and chocolate) and beat until combined. Stir in chocolate and walnuts and make sure they're evenly distributed.

The dough might be a little crumbly, but it'll bake fine. Just be patient and careful when rolling balls of it! Form 1 1/2 inch balls and place them on a cookie sheet (you can line with parchment paper for easy cleanup) about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. If your cookie sheet is dark, you might want to reduce bake time by a minute or two!

Enjoy! PS: I don't even like nuts in my cookies and I liked these. So trust me. :)
